Geschichtsort Villa ten Hompel
Villa ten Hompel was originally a villa built by the wealthy Rudolf ten Hompel. During the Second World War, the villa served as the headquarters for the regional uniformed police of military unit VI. As such, it became a coordination point from which officials and armed police units committed crimes in the service of National Socialism. In the post-war period, between 1954 and 1968, the villa housed the regional department for restitution to the victims of the Nazi regime.

The Oorlogsgravenstichting (War Grave Foundation) has registered 180,000 people as war victims in the Netherlands. These are men, women, and children who lost their lives during the Second World War or during violent conflicts thereafter—such as in the former Dutch East Indies and during recent peace missions. Each of these people has a story, however brief or simple. The foundation aims to keep the memory of these individuals alive.
