Education

The Nationaal Onderduikmuseum brings together various true stories of war under one roof. However, it is about more than that: the historical aspect is updated to reflect the present and the future. The museum demonstrates that every situation requires people to make choices, regardless of their country of origin or their faith. Whether they are Dutch or German, Muslim, Christian, or Jewish; in times of war, groups of people are deprived of their freedom of choice. To others, these choices sometimes seem very black and white, but nothing could be further from the truth. Today, too, our lives are shaped by choices that can determine our own lives or those of others.

In our learning programme, we utilise Kolb’s interactive didactic method. We establish a connection with human rights and organise supporting projects and temporary exhibitions in both Dutch and German. Our approach is Euregional and youth-oriented, and wherever possible, we collaborate with partners on both sides of the border.

The Nationaal Onderduikmuseum offers schools an engaging educational programme designed to encourage critical thinking among pupils. The programmes are available for primary, secondary, higher, special and vocational education. They introduce pupils and students to the themes of hiding, resistance and freedom. Most programmes are available in Dutch and German.
