Teaching Methods & Activities
In 2019, the Nationaal Onderduikmuseum, in collaboration with 13 other war museums and memorial centres, published a ‘Methodology Fan’ (a resource guide for teaching activities).
This guide includes lesson ideas for discussion techniques, working with (digital) sources, stories, or photographs, and engaging with exhibitions.
The methodology fan can be downloaded for free here:

Comic Book: De Schuilhoek/ Das Versteck (The Hiding Place)
An educational comic about the Second World War – suitable for upper primary and lower secondary education.
Author: Eric Heuvel
These bilingual comic books (Dutch/German) were commissioned by the Nationaal Onderduikmuseum and the Anne Frank Foundation. They are designed to be used in preparation for a visit to the museum.
The Story: The Hiding Place follows Wim van Dort, a resistance character from the book The Discovery. In 1943, to avoid the ‘Arbeitseinsatz’ (forced labour), he goes into hiding in Aalten, a border town in the Achterhoek region.
Schools can order copies at a reduced price of €2.50 each (minimum order of 10 copies, excluding shipping costs).
Please contact educatie@onderduikmuseum.nl or order via the booking form.

Plekken met een Verhaal (Places with a Story)
A digital lesson for vocational students (MBO). Through this lesson, students develop their critical thinking skills. The material can be integrated into citizenship education, for example, within political-legal or socio-cultural modules.
