Moshe Boas Berg, alias Cor Buijs

(Amsterdam, 1925)

Member of the 1st Company DNB

No one knows that he is Jewish

Moshe Boas Berg is 17 years old and travels by train from Alkmaar to Aalten in 1942 under the name Cor Buys, where he goes into hiding. Moshe works on the Luiten family farm during the day and hides in the forest at night with other people in hiding.

Everyone believes that ‘Cor’ is Reformed. On Sunday, January 30, 1944, the SS arrests Moshe along with over 45 other young men during the razzia in the Westerkerk in Aalten. He is held in Kamp Amersfoort for four months. Still, no one knows that he is Jewish. He is transported by train to Bocholt with other prisoners.

He manages to escape from there together with Bruin Noordam. They walk to Suderwick, where relatives of the Luiten family live, who help them across the border. Bruin Noordam is able to return to Ligterink in Barlo. Moshe first finds a place at ‘Het Bokkel’ and from October in Lintelo. There, he maintains good contact with other people in hiding in the area who are preparing together to support the liberators.

Immediately on the day of liberation, Moshe joins the Home Forces and subsequently the Dutch National Battalion, where he is assigned to the 1st company.

After the war, Moshe married, lived in Apeldoorn, and had six children. In May 1973, he emigrated to Israel, where he became a vegetable grower and later a yoga teacher. He was always searching for truth and solutions for the world.

Moshe Boas Berg passed away in 2012.
